Catch 22 was a very popular novel in my youth. Catch is a very interesting word.

http://www.google.com.br/search?hl=pt-BR&q=define%3A+catch&meta=

has more definitions of it. My favorite synonym for “catch” is “hitch”, but “catch” can also mean “to get.”

When we hear a deal that seems too good to be true, we think, "what's the catch?" (what is the hitch, or what is the negative criteria that is not apparent on the face of things. What is the hidden agenda, the unrevealed negative outcome or consequence).

I have caught the fever of living in Brazil. I guess I will catch a few rays (enjoy the sunshine outside) before I catch a few winks (take a nap, go to sleep for a little while).

Hugs,
Mary vacationing in Rio
