Antes da gravação de Abbey Road os Beatles haviam começado os trabalhos de composição e gravação para um disco (que deveria ser acompanhado de um filme) chamado Get Back, que significaria uma volta a suas raízes. A idéia inicial era fazer um álbum despojado, simples e expontâneo. Com o fim da banda a gravadora aproveitou o material existente, mixou os trechos já gravados e lançou Let It Be.
