Seguem abaixo algumas informações interessantes contidas no depoimento:

How did you learn English?

And my answer:

I’ve always studied English, I’d say, since I was twelve years old. I always loved the language, it’s really, really fantastic to have the opportunity to communicate with people in another language. And, at that time, it was more fun, you know, it was something that I wanted.

And I had no money to pay for a course, I had no time to go to school. It was really, really difficult at that time: we had no internet, we had no magazines on CDs and everything. And even though we had, I would have no money to buy them.

So, I started to studying by myself at home with some books that I could get from school. I had some people helping me from here and there, not all the time. And I always listened to the radio, I always tried to read something in English in the books that I could get from school and from my friends.

I can tell you that it was really, really hard. In the 1995, or 1996, I decided that I wanted to do something much better with that. And, I decided to take the exams, the Cambridge exams, I guess, I don’t know if you are aware of them, but it’s a very good way to check your level of English.

But I’d say that my English really, really improved in 1999, when I started teaching and taking the profession as an EOT Professional, which in Brazil is only English Teacher. But it was kinda hard, you know, but them I started having access to the internet, listening to things on the internet, talking to people from all over the world.

I could watch TV at home in English, like CNN, BBC, things like that. I always took the time to read something, and I still take that time to read something in English.

I really get involved in this, this is the number one tip for you who wants to learn a language: get involved with the language. There is no way to learn it from books and etc., you have to get involved, you have to do something, you have to show what you are posible to do. You have to use all the technology and everything that you have in your hands in order to improve it and to make the best of it.

It’s up to you. It’s not up to a book, it’s not up to a course, it’s not up to a teacher, it’s not up to a gringo who’s coming from the U.S to help you out. It’s up to you. You are the main responsible for learn English and for improving your abilities and skills in using the language. You do the best, it’s not the others.

And this is how I learned the English language. And this is how I still learn the English language, and I hope you learn from this lesson. And if you wanna learn more about this, just keep logged to these blogs that you have aware: Inglês na Ponta da Língua, English Experts, Tecla SAP and all the others that are around. Take good advantage of them.

That’s it, see you. Bye-bye!

Denilso, obrigado por compartilhar conosco a sua experiência no aprendizado de idiomas.

All the best!
