Berate and Manhandle: Por que o infinitivo?
When Richard Harris died in 2002, Gambon took over the role of Harry's whimsical mentor, the Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore. Except Gambon didn't play the character whimsically – going off-piste in the fourth film, Goblet of Fire, when he had Dumbledore berate and even manhandle Harry over a trifle.

Simon, existe a mesma diferença em português, não?:
O diretor fez ela tropeçar no caminho.
O diretor fez ela tropeçando no caminho.
A diferença essencial é entre a caracterização de uma ação específica e de um atributo mais constante do personagem. Neste caso, predomina o interesse em descrever um caso exemplar.
Does that make sense?

Por que a estrutura gramatical em questão não pede o gerúndio. Este uso de "have" não faz com que os verbos a seguir venham no gerúndio.Por que "berate" and "manhandle" não ficam no geúndio?
Actually, I disagree with Donay. Purely on a grammatical level, either an infinitive or a gerund works here. If my explanation doesn't convince, the simpler explanation is probably that the writer picked the simpler form, because, well, it's simpler.
In any case, consider this example of a play director planning a scene:
Let's have Johnny stand there during the dialogue between Ann and Betty.
Let's have Johnny standing there during the dialogue...
Do you detect any difference between the two? I think I do. In the first, the concern is with Johnny's activity in the scene. In the second, it's with Johnny as part of the scenario where the focus of action is between Ann and Betty.

Quando traduzimos para o português fica no gerúndio, não é? Desta forma:
...when he had Dumbledore berate and even manhandle Harry --> quando ele fez Dumbledore repreendendo e até manipulando Harry
...when he had Dumbledore berate and even manhandle Harry --> quando ele fez Dumbledore repreendendo e até manipulando Harry
Na minha opinião, repreender e manipular.
CURSO DE PRONÚNCIA

Yes, you could, but "had" is stylistically a little more interesting.
