Hello NJbrazil,
É isso mesmo!
- Sanitary Pad
- Sanitary Towel
- Sanitary Napkin
Se for Tampax (O.B.) - absorvente interno - é Tampon.
Kisses,

MELHORE SUA PRONÚNCIA EM INGLÊS
Que eu saiba absorvente interno é tampon, mas pelo jeito é só o que as americanas usam, pois sempre se referem a absorvente com essa palavra.
I call externally worn sanitary pads "sanitary napkins."
My neighbor asked me to buy her some "Kotex," which is the brand name of the sanitary napkins she uses.
The generic name for internal protection is tampon, as was already mentioned, but many people call them and ask for them by the brand name "OBs."
One can ask a clerk, "Do you have any OBs?" or "Where are the OBs?"

Sim, mas tenha cuidado nos EUA. Se você falar só "Where are the pads?" ou "I need a pad," a pessoa com quem você fala não vai entender diretinho o que você precisa.donay mendonça escreveu:Olá Pessoal,

Yes, but be careful in the US. If you say only "Where are the pads?" or "I need a pad," the person with whom you are speaking will not understand what you need.
"Pad" should be modified with "sanitary" when you mean feminine hygiene products.
Otherwise you could be asking for a matress pad to protect your bed, a knee or shoulder pad to protect yourself from sports injuries, flute pads for the musical instrument, sleeping pads for camping, mouse pads, ink pad, launch pad for a rocket, a writing pad, etc.
At http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pad I did not see any mention of "pad" being used to mean "sanitary napkin."
I did see some examples of web pages that use the word "pad" unmodified such as this one http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~obsidian/c ... Types.html , but it is better, in my opinion, to avoid using the word "pad" by itself if you need a sanitary napkin.
Hi Maryziller,
It does make sense as "pad" has other meanings besides this one.It should be used in a specific context otherwise people might get confused.
Thank you!

The word pad I use every day at work:
talking to my husband:
- Honey I am in my period, do you mind buying me some pads on your way home?
at work (nursing home) talking to the PCA (Persona Care assistant)
- The resident peed in the matress, let me change the sheets and put some pads on top of it.
