Eu já vi dessa forma:

Fulano and Beltrano went through a crateful of beers in no time (= Beberam/consumiram ... rapidamente/num piscar de olhos/sua expressão aqui)

Ou melhor (e mais comumente), "... a crate of beers."

Complementando:

Para mim, a opção 'run out of beer' é correta. Há como expressar isso com "go through", porém, me parece menos comum.

Years ago, the Schlitz Brewery said in its commercials, "When you are out of Schlitz, you are out of beer."
Naturally, people starting repeating that, but taking out of the word Schlitz the letters C, L, and Z.
