How can I say the sentence below with the intonation related to the fact that I only traveled because of the holiday?

Eu aproveitei o feriado prolongado pra viajar ( Ou seja, eu aproveitei o fato de ser feriado prolongado pra viajar )

Poderia ser assim?
I took the opportunity of holiday weekend to travel!

Minha sugestão:
Eu aproveitei o feriado prolongado pra viajar.
I went away because it was a Bank Holiday weekend.

Notas viajar --> sugiro "to go away" ou "to go on a trip"
"to travel" não soa muito bem

Mas quando a enfase está na hora ou modo de viajar
We travelled by plane.
We are going to travel on the Saturday and stay for a week.

I searched and I found an expression that can fit like a glove upon it

To make use- Aproveitar

(I made use of my free time to read!)

And I guess it can match with my first sentence:
I made use of the holiday weekend to travel!!

I wonder if it's correct!!

Concordo com "take advantage." É facilmente a expressão que mais se usa para "aproveitar".

Frequentemente dizemos "long weekend" para distinguir o fim de semana comum daquele ao qual foi adicionado um dia de feriado.
