Se ainda conheço bem o português chuva torrencial é mais do que chuva forte, anyway quando está chovendo forte é comum dizer: 'It's pouring.' O TheFreeDictionary online admite essa acepção:
pour (pôr, pr)
v. poured, pour·ing, pours
v.intr.
2. To rain hard or heavily.
Torrential rains parece ser mais formal e pertencer ao mundo do inglês escrito. Nunca ouvi um nativo mencionar algo como torrential rain.

Uma vez eu vi que pouring rain também pode ser usado nesse contexto. Tá certo?

E a respeito do termo "Rainfall"? não tem um significado semelhante? Tipo cair "um chuvão"?
