Como dizer "estou com frio/calor" em inglês

Como dizer "estou com frio/calor" em inglês
Olá, pessoal!

Uma vez uma colega da Turquia me disse que quando sentimos frio, nós devemos falar "The weather is cold", e nunca "I'm cold" ou "I feel cold", pois se refere a uma pessoa se sentir (ou ser) fria e calculista, por exemplo.

A mesma coisa quando está quente. "I feel hot" ou "I'm hot" significa que você é sexy.

Nunca consegui tirar essa dúvida. Alguém me ajuda?

1. Para dizer "você está com frio?" em inglês, sugiro fazer uso das opções "are you cold?" ou "do you feel cold?"; para falar "você está com calor?", a minha sugestão é "are you hot?".

Collins Dictionary - Spanish English:

¿Tiene (usted) calor? Are you hot?

2. Eu tenho frio / calor; sinto frio/calor nas minhas pernas/braços.

My legs feel cold.
My arms feel cold.
My legs feel hot.
My arms feel hot.

Do Google: "I suffer from night cramps and from time to time my legs feel hot and heavy, very wearisome!"

Olá Mah,

Adaptei uma ótima resposta da Maryziller. Veja:
"I feel cold/chilly," "It's cold/chilly [in here, today, out],"I feel cold/chilly" are more common than "I´m cold."
"It's hot"or "it's warm" is more common than "I'm hot."
Meu comentário:

"Hot" é muito usado nos EUA com este sentido mesmo(sexy, atraente, etc)...com isso evita-se este termo com "I", "you", etc. Veja acima as sugestões da Mary. "Cold" além de "frio" no sentido literal pode ser usado no sentido figurado, este é para mim também o motivo, mas menos frequente do que "hot".

Boa sorte!

I think it's more a matter of context and common sense. If you're at a hot stuffy bar wearing your little black dress, and you say "I'm hot," there is every likelihood every male around you will give preference to one meaning. However, if you're home with family and friends, or at work, and the place is too warm, and you're wearing not the little black dress but regular clothes, there's little likelihood of a sexual inference.

This reminds me of the "types of grammar" discussions of the mid-80s, when there was an attempt to teach a more fundamental view of grammar, that outlawed expressions like "I'm hot," since what is high is the temperature that you feel, and therefore the more sensoble statement would be "I feel hot."

Other exs:

I'm Henry -> I call myself Henry
Roses are red -> Roses display the colour red.
I'm hot -> I feel too much heat
I'm hot -> You melt looking at me

There was even an attempt to retire the verb TO BE, and to use only a subset of English known as "E-prime." It's really a marvelous exercise to try to write English without the verb TO BE. Check out "E-prime" on Google, even if it's no longer a hot topic.

Wow!!! E-prime method should be adopted by some teachers that insist on teaching verb to be, verb to be, verb to be, verb to be... (and making so many students hate English because of that!)
Mas e ai como fica para perguntar "Você não está com frio/calor?"

Aren't you felling chilly?

Olá Donay,

Obrigado pela resposta, mas ainda queria saber como podemos perguntar'' Você tem/sente frio nas pernas ou braços com esse tempo louco ?

E se a pergunta '' are you hot ?'' não há o risco de ser mal entendido ?

Dicas:

1. Você tem/sente frio nas pernas ou braços com esse tempo louco ?
Do your legs/arms feel cold with this crazy weather?

2. "Feel hot" não é uma opção que eu usaria. Você não corre o risco de ser mal entendido com "are you hot?". Na verdade, este uso figurado de "hot" pertence ao AmE informal. Não acredito que alguém sério - nos EUA - iria levar "are you hot?" na malícia. Talvez, uma brincadeira informal, apenas.

Do Wordreference:
But "I'm hot", without further context, is most likely to be a reference to my temperature.
Depending on where it is said, though, those listening may choose to grin at the double entendre.
Bons estudos.
