Não seria melhor especificar o tipo de aula que você vai ter?
Ex.: Sorry, but I have English class today.
Ex.: Sorry, but I have English class today.
I'd say
Sorry, but I have to go to the class today.
The first option sounds good to me!
It should be strange to you because you've never used before!
Best regards
Angélica

If you have class today it may mean you`re classy. But you're probably classy every day.
If you have a class today it means you`re going to school, a classy thing to do.
Some people have no class. We avoid them.
(In short, use the article!)
All the best!

"I have a class today" would sound like it is an extraordinary event. It's like "I have a meeting today".
(I know, I'm thinking in Portuguese)
I have a class today. (tenho aula hoje)
The emphasis isn`t on any specific subject, but on the fact that you`ll be busy going to school.
I have the class today. (tenho a aula...)
A definite emphasis on a specific class that your interlocutor will have some knowledge of.
And how about?
I have Dance tonight. (a class)
I have a dance tonight. (any old dance party)
I have the dance tonight. (the one I`ve been looking forward to all week long)
Best

Flávia,
Para complementar:
Pode-se ser específico, dizendo "I have a class", neste caso, quem ouve sabe que é só uma.Se quiser generalizar, use "I have classes".Para dizer "as aulas acabaram(entrar de férias)", use "Classes are over".Para dizer "Faltar (a) aula", use "miss class" ou "not show up for class".
Boa sorte!
