The meaning is obvious, but I have to say I've never heard the expression. It's probably more British usage? I don`t know.

Gramaticalmente, o correto seria “eggs are eggs”, mas o Wiktionary cita: the ungrammatical "is" is commonly used in this set phrase. (A forma comumente usada é a não gramatical “is”).
