Let me take an on-topic whack at it. And please let me do it in English.
Let's face it. While die-hard grammarians have long considered Te amo leading sentences incorrect, they eventually thought better of it and (finally) incorporated it into their grammar manuals. Notoriously known for his straight objection to overly corrected spoken and written Portuguese, writer Carlos Bagno, a grammarian himself, purportedly might have considered any attempt at informality correct in recent years. His ulterior motive for that lay behind his disillusionment with other pet peeve-finding grammarians who would outright reject anything nonconforming to Standard Portuguese grammar rules.
Mr. Bagno has lied low ever since. So seemingly have his books on the dusty racks of most bookstores.

[...]
Likewise, doesn't X in the sentence example "X pediu (licença) para ir ao banheiro" (X asked [leave] to go to the toilet) excuse himself to go to the toilet?

Galera,
Essa história de mim conjugar verbo dói muito o ouvido. Pelo amor de Deus, mim não conjuga verbo, vamos ajudar a abolir isso da língua Portuguesa.

Apoiado PRESENTE, PASSADO e FUTURO IS ENOUGH.... lmao....
Olá Pessoal,
Este "para mim" com certeza incomoda bastante.Prefiro "ir na reunião" do que "pedir para mim ir".
Márcio,
Suas observações fazem sentido, existem possibilidades de mudança de sentido...Eu entendo "Ele pediu para eu ir" como "Ele pediu que eu fosse".
