8 - I don't know. Can we have a going away party for someone leaving town, for instance?

10a - It seems to me that here you might drop the in and still get your message across.

Do the forum members know why "being at work" takes an "at" preposition and not an "on" preposition?

10 a - and I agree with Marcio about dropping the preposition

@ Marcio: I guess "at" is needed because "work" in this context refers to a place. I'm at the office / at the school / at work.
