Ainda, de acordo com o Babylon(só encontrei uma explicação melhor em Espanhol), significa "•take + Posesivo + toll (on)(v.) = pagar las consecuencias de, tener su efecto, afectar, hacerse sentir, hacer mella, hacer estragos.
Ex: The pressures which modern society puts on all its members are great and those pressures take their toll."
