Que tal agora o modal verb MAY?
Pois é, vamos em frente.

-O modal MAY deve ser utilizado em frases (sentences) mais formais, enquanto o modal CAN em frases mais informais.
Ex: May I use your telephone? (eu posso usar seu telefone)

Observe abaixo os seguintes modos de utilização do modal MAY.

Ele Pode indicar:

a) Uma idéia de permissão. Ex: You may smoke (você pode fumar);
b) Uma proibição. Ex: You may not smoke here (você não pode fumar aqui);
c) Uma possibilidade. Ex: He may be right (ele pode ter razão).

OBS: O modal verb MIGHT é o tempo passado do modal MAY.
Exs: T. Rex said that he might go to England (o T. Rex disse que poderia ir para a Inglaterra)
Might I borrow your truck? (poderia emprestar-me o seu caminhão?)

In the United States no one says "MIght I borrow your turck."

MIght is a form that is antiquated and almost obsolete.
It only appears in phrases like "Might I have this dance" when the man is deliberately trying to be romantic by speaking in an antiquated manner.

"MIght I have your hand in marriage" is another example. Learners should avoid using the word might when asking permission. When asking permission they should use "may I" when they want to be polite with a superior, or among family and friends, it is normal to ask "can I."

When a person in aurhortiy such as a boss or teacher uses the word might, it sounds like a command.

"You might want to reconsider" means you should reconsider.
"MIght I have your attention"when said by a teacher in a serious tone means she is displeased with the behavior of the class.
