Peoples vs People

Hi,

I always though that there isn't a plural for word "people" because it
is already a plural word (ex: the people ARE dancing). But today, I
found (on Internet) a sentence with word "peoples" (with the 'S'
letter at the end). Initially, I thought it was a mistake, but then I
read this definition at Answers.com:

"pl. peo·ples. A body of persons sharing a common religion, culture,
language, or inherited condition of life".

If I correctly understand this issue, "peoples" isn't the plural of
"people". They are two plural words with little different meaning
between then. Am I right?

I always see this "peoples" when usually refering to populational groups, as I study Geography, like "the peoples of Africa" or "the peoples of South America".

nossa, peoples pra mim é novidade!
Sim, people pode ser o plural de "pessoa".

There is 1 person. (Tem uma pessoa).
There are 2 people. (Tem duas pessoas).

Ou pode ser o singular de "povo".

The people of Japan are famous for their discipline.
(O povo do japão é famoso para sua disciplina)

The peoples of this African nation are at war.
(Os povos dessa nação africana estão em guerra)
interessante..acho q deve ser população mesmo, esses dias eu vi numa serie : "all are people, you are a people,i'm a people", i'm a people não estaria errado ?
