Na frase "Can't you see you're just making things more difficult for yourself?" Por que não usa-se o THAT "

"Can't you see THAT you're just making things more difficult for yourself?"

Eliana,

O "that" é obrigatório apenas quando:
(a) ocupa o lugar de sujeito.
(b) é seguido de um advérbio.

Exemplos:

(a) I am looking for a book that is easy to read.

(b) She said that under no circumstances would she allow us to skip the meeting

I think the following way is easy to understand when to use THAT or not:

1- YOU CAN omit THAT when it is before a personal pronoun:
Eg. I saw the sofa you bought yesterday. ( Eu vi o sofá que você comprou ontem.)
2- DO NOT omit THAT when it is before a verb or an adverb:
Eg. Please, take the books THAT are on the shelf. ( Por favor, pegue os livros que estão na prateleira.)
I have a radio THAT hardly works. ( Eu tenho um rádio que dificilmente funciona.)
