No exemplo citado por você, eu usaria "took a sample of my blood".
There were these men in green coats they took a sample of my blood. "I was given an injection and I passed out." [BBS - UK]
The nurse takes a sample of your blood and the lab determines your cholesterol level. [Omaha - USA]
Porém, para dizer "ter medo de tirar sangue" (por exemplo, para exame), "have my, your, his, her, etc., blood taken" é usado.
I'm afraid to have my blood taken.
Eu tenho medo de tirar sangue.
I hate having blood taken.
Eu odeio tirar sangue.
Bons estudos. Compartilhe a dica.

The nurse took my blood and my arm is hurting.
In informal ways, you could say that.
But the usual is to say that they drew blood/took a sample of your blood, etc, as pointed out before.

I am 32 years old women. In last July I donated blood. And recently one of my friend's mother was in need of blood. When i went to the hospital they told me my heamoglobin in only 10 and I am not eligible to donate blood. If that is the case how did a blood camp took blood from me in the month of July(5 months before) .
Don´t seem like it´s wrong, just that it is not used very often.
