Como dizer "Arrastão" em inglês

Simon Vasconcelos 11 221

Plundering, pillaging, looting, sacking.

Some possibilities:

"Organized gang looting"
"Gang-sacking of a building"
"Large-scale beach plunder"

Complementando:

Steaming

Steaming: a crime in which a group of thieves move quickly through a crowded public place, stealing things as they go.(Oxford)

Boa sorte!

Eu usaria "arrastão" mesmo ou goupt attack depois de explicar: arrastão is a sort of group attack that works like a drag net, plundering all around like a horde of starving mad man. Ou alguma coisa assim.
riot

Jedson,

Sugestão:

Steaming

Steaming: a method of stealing in which a large group of young people go into a public place, surprise and frighten the people there, and then rob them. - Longman

Bons estudos!

Donay, sometimes finding a word in the dictionary does not mean they’re widely used in the normal vocabulary of TV news and the population in general.

The word “steaming” is more used to express,

He came running and steaming down the street to get the ball when...

For “arrastão”, the words “looting”, “sacking” and “plunder” and “riot” are mostly used as Henry well said. The most common in my views are “looting and rioting”.
Youngsters from many parts of the City are grouping in gangs and "riot looting" the people in the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!

Also:

beach-gang assaults

mass beach roberies
(the author of the article cited "big drags" for didatic effect only, since it´s an analogy with the drag in when they have to bring a good amount of catch to the beach)

Indeed, the word "arrastão" in some capitols took a darker turn.

Not to think that a "arrastão" happens just on beaches, but it could be on the streets or in malls or in the vicinities of it (any place without secuties enough).
In beaches they could be interested in pretty much everything , from a cell phone, to a necessaire, to a photographic camera etc, any valuables.

And they could use some kind of improvised weapon to rob people in masse, in similar ways they do when in soccer stadium fights.

An article to show how it is, there are photos and some background explanation:

Folks,

PPAULO 6 49 1.3k
Ah, and could be just "mass roberies" (when not talking about it happening in beaches).

Back to you, BigSpire, sack is used more in the sense of "despedir de um emprego, demitir de um emprego, posto ou função - pública ou em empresa privada, altarquias, etc.

Loot -
1) Pilhagem, saque.
2) Ganhos por meios ilícitos.
Sometimes it have the same above meanings , and most of the time it happens in time of war, chaos, etc.
It has a ring of a pillage or steal being made by a group, could be a tribe taking possesions of people of another tribe as war spoils, soldiers from a given country taking -for example- works of art, or even mementos from another country. etc...

So, in general a "loot" can be thought as a "plunder", but the reverse/the opposite is not true.
