Diferença entre "both... and' e "either... and"

Por exemplo nessa frase: : "Both your Library Number and Password are now required". Poderia tambem ser usado o "either..and" ?

Obrigada :)

Aline,

1. Both...and: tanto quando (inclui os dois)
a. Both you and me. (Tanto você quanto eu, nós dois.)
b. Both Brazil and England.

2. Either...or: ou...ou(ou um ou o outro.)
a. She's the kind of person you either love or hate.
b. It's your choice! Either she leaves or I will! (A escolha é sua! Ou ela sai ou saio eu.)
c. I shot the robber. It was either me or him. (Eu atirei no ladrão. Era eu ou ele.)

Aline,

Eu não usaria "either...and". Recomendo: "both...and" e "either...or".
Can you help me? :)
Leia a frase: "She doesn't understand either of her two language teachers when they speak fast."

Dicas:

"She doesn't understand either of her two language teachers when they speak fast."

She doesn't understand either of her two language teachers when they speak fast.

Thank you guys.
Hi, guys!

Vou aproveitar o tópico, pois estou estudando neither/either/both. Escrevi um pequeno esqueminha, com exemplos. Podem dizer se há algo errado?

Both ... And => I like you both, Tom and Robin.

Either ... Or => I don't like either of the two teachers.

Neither ... Nor => He likes neither you nor me.

E aqui:

It means you gave up either liberty or safety.

... both liberty and safety.

... neither liberty nor safety.

Agradecido.

I like you both, Tom and Robin.

I don't like either of those two teachers. (aqui fiz uma pequena correção)

I don’t like either of those dresses.

I don’t like either of those teachers.

I don’t like either of them.

He likes neither you nor me.

He likes neither the house nor the neighborhood.

He likes neither tea nor coffee.

She likes neither blue nor yellow.

E aqui:

It means you gave up either liberty or safety. (não está errado)
Exemplos:
She gave up either hope or work.

“Those who would give up Essential Liberty, to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" (Benjamin Franklin)
http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Benjamin_Franklin

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will ….

But that type of pact has never enhanced either liberty or safety, and its fruits are always bitter.

It is so bad that we do not deserve to have either liberty or safety if we are willing to give liberty up.
it is the base on which liberty stands — it excites vigilance, ami that is the condition on which freedom exists: without it, there cannot be either liberty or safety.
We can have both liberty and security.

Eu devo sempre usar either com or, neither com nor e both com and?
Ancrispa 9 55
A resposta é sim.
Either ...or usamos sempre como conjunção. Neste caso, sim você usa either com or. Exemplo:
Either we go by train or we rent a car. Which do you prefer?
Agora a palavra either tem outras classes gramaticais. Por exemplo, como advérbio:
It was a really nice hotel, and it wasn’t very expensive either.
She doesn’t like eggs and she doesn’t like fish either.

Aqui você não usa o or.

Você também pode usar either com a preposição of quando for seguida por the, these, those ou pronomes possessivos (my,your) com um substantivo no plural:

Either of the children can come with us; we don’t mind which.
I don’t want either of my parents to know I’ve lost my job.

Exemplos tirados do Cambridge dictionary. Mais usos de either aqui:
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/grammar ... mar/either
O mesmo ocorre com neither...nor . É uma conjunção. Sempre usamos neither com nor nesta situação.Sempre em frases negativas:
Neither Brian nor his wife mentioned anything about moving house. (Brian didn’t mention that they were moving house and his wife didn’t mention that they were moving house.)

Neither Italy nor France got to the quarter finals last year.

Seu uso é considerado formal. Para ficar mais informal você usa a estrutura and....not....either:

Italy didn’t get to the quarter finals last year and France didn’t either.

Both .... and é uma linking expression.

Both Britain and France agree on the treaty. (stronger link than Britain and France agree on the treaty.)

She played both hockey and basketball when she was a student. (stronger link thanShe played hockey and basketball when she was a student.)

A afirmação é: Sarah can cook. Lin can cook.

Both Sarah and Lin can cook.
Either Sarah or Lin can cook.
