Como o devido contexto, a forma mais adequada (polida) para se dizer "anão" em inglês é mesmo "little person" (singular) ou "little people" (plural).

Exemplos de uso:

"She will be hired for the movie because she is a little person. The role fits her."
"He is a little person, but lives a normal life. Being short doesn't bother him."
Do Wordference:

If someone hasn't had much familiarity with the terminology, 'little person' might not immediately suggest a person with dwarfism. They may understand it as a description of someone of slight stature, or as a way of referring to a child. You would need to provide an explanation or context.

Little person is the most recent term, and the least likely to cause offense. Unfortunately, as Cagey says, it's also the most ambiguous -- if I hear the sentence "He is a little person" with no context, I'm not sure if the speaker means that the "he" is unusually short for a man (say, 5'1) or if he has a form of dwarfism. In the little person community you'll often see the abbreviation LP, which is unambiguous and oftn used as a term of pride.
Bons estudos.

I found the following article in a magazine:

There's been a lot of discussion over the years about the proper way to refer to someone with dwarfism. Many people who have the condition prefer the term "little person" or "person of short stature." For some, "dwarf" is acceptable. For most, "midget" definitely is not.

Também me lembrei do filme "o pequenino", que tem como título original: Little man.

" In the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other English-speaking countries, some people with dwarfism prefer to be called little people."
