First of all, mandible is the lower jaw (speaking of the human mandible here).

Jaw (to me) is more used in everyday talk, mandible would be more of a medical speaking, or perhaps in more
formal talks as well.

Só como adendo e curiosidade; os cartazes de filmes " O tubarão " contem a imagem do animal e a palavra JAW no lugar de SHARK.
