Ou seja, é errado falar "They've chosen Chinese food for dinner"?

Obrigada.

lulutz, talvez você esteja confundindo o uso da preposição for.

- uso de "for + substantivo":
They've chosen Chinese food for dinner (dinner é um substantivo).
I had tea and wholemeal bread for breakfast.
They went to New York for Christmas.

We must begin planning now, for the future may bring some unexpected changes.

- uso de "for + period of time":
She has been studying English for three years.
I've been waiting for the bus (for + substantivo) for almost half an hour (for + period of time).
We are going to live for a very long time (Heaven 17).

Can you do this for me, please?
I'll do this for you.

There´s nothing grammarly wrong with the sentence. Let´s say you are talking about something right now, say, your parents.
Say, you want some advice. Your parents, all off sudden, come up with an idea of going to a restaurant and have dinner in family, they have already chosen the restaurant but they have not chosen the dish. Wait! you recall right now that they have chosen! They have chosen Chinese food for dinner and apple pie for dessert! You say. What is my opinion? You ask.

Notice that this piece of text mix the present (you don´t know what to do NOW, and you have a fact that happened before "they have chosen" something, but how "before" don´t matter. What matters is what you are going to do. So you want my opinion).
Thus, the present perfect is rather popular with in reviews and with opinion seekers (read, restaurant goers seeking advice or opinion).
