Another sense, a bit different of the initial one (from this topic), is:

"Prepará-la para receber más notícias..." with the meaninf of "ensuring that the right/best conditions are set to communicate bad news (as if there was a good way...! but at least no to give someone a heart attack, have someone fainting on spot, etc)





You need to ensure that you break the news in an amiable, tactful, and display a symphathetic solidarity.
In other words, you get the conditions as ready as possible to communicate the bad news... by softening the blow of it. It´s a way of "prepará-la (uma pessoa) para receber as más notícias..."
