"Prepará-la para receber más notícias..." with the meaninf of "ensuring that the right/best conditions are set to communicate bad news (as if there was a good way...! but at least no to give someone a heart attack, have someone fainting on spot, etc)

In other words, you get the conditions as ready as possible to communicate the bad news... by softening the blow of it. It´s a way of "prepará-la (uma pessoa) para receber as más notícias..."
