Por que não simplesmente "this"?
Eu andei percebendo um monte de frases e textos com a presença de "this out", tudo o que eu traduzi que continha essas duas palavras juntas tinha o mesmo sentido que o "this" sozinho: isso. A minha pergunta é, se tanto "this" e "this out", significam "isso", qual a necessidade de se colocar o "out" depois de "this"? E se eu estiver enganado e o "this out" tiver um sentido diferente, que sentido seria esse? Uma frase com "this out" que eu encontrei recentemente é: "Maybe we've spent too much trying to figure this out with theory."

Na verdade a questão nesta frase não é o "THIS OUT" o "OUT" é um complemento de "FIGURE".
"Maybe we've spent too much trying to figure this out with theory."
Figure Out é um Phasal Verb, significa: Entender.
Outro exemplo: Find = achar Find Out= descobrir.
