Por exemplo, na frase: You are (a/an) unforgettable girl.
O substantivo "girl" levaria "a" pela regra, enquanto o adjetivo "unforgettable" levaria "an".

Você concorda com a palavra que segue ao artigo. Como no inglês todos os adjetivos são colocados antes do substantivo a concordância será com a primeira palavra, subsequente ao artigo.
  • A delicious apple.
  • An ugly face.
  • A beautiful green dress.
  • An elegant green dress.

I just want to complete the information:

We use an before a word beginning with a vowel sound, and a before a word beginning with a consonant sound.
We say:
A basket
A boy
A week
A uniform (the u sounds like y consonant)
A university (the u sounds like y consonant)
A one-legged man (the o sounds like w in won- consonant sound)
A European (the e sounds like y consonant)
A hotel
An apple
An honest man (silent h)
An heir (silent h)
An honor (silent h)
A used shirt (the u sounds like y)
A united front (the u sounds like y)

A good indication today is Google research itself, if you need to know it on the fly.

You could use the key words "a an unforgettable", it will show '"did you mean?" and suggest the right one.

With "a an university" it displays a lot of grammar sites, at least you can enter one and see the answer. You could use the Libre Office´s Writer and it would say that "an university" is wrong, it says "wrong article" and suggest the right way.
I mean, if the Writer check spelling is set to "English", not Portuguese.
