Sorrow

Sadness might be a fleeting event, and sorrow can be a slightly more lasting, but intense and painful (as grieving for someone, for example.) and deeper (you get yourself wretched).
As in the song of Miley Cyrrus "Wrecking Ball" - the character of the music might be experiencing "sorrow" (uma baita dor de cotovelo, com sentimentos confusos, como -de perda, de pena de si mesmo, desânimo, entre outros.

In many ways we could use unhappy as an antonym for happy, whereas we could use happiness/comfort/cheer/relief as antonyms for sorrow.

severe upset or pain (grief, distress, misery, rue, woe, etc...)
