In Canada you´re not really a Canadian until you can say "Eh?" in every sentence, eh?

Hi there...
= "What? Aren't you dressed yet??"
Why are u still awake?"

Cheers, everyone!

No, Mary Ziller. As far as I know it doesn´t mean "hey" in the usual meaning of "hey".
It is an exclamation equivalent to rolling eyes and to say I don´t/I can´t believe you are saying that!
Other equivalents are to say "nonsense/ugh/ouch I can´t believe you are saying that"" with the meaning of "no way, José!"
Also other similar expression: "huh?" conveying mock incredulity and sneering towards a statement just said, or to something that you are going to prove/say otherwise.
As in:
Huh? Soccer un-American? Ann Coulter thinks so.
http://www.discussionist.com/101597390
(the huh? Meaning that the author doesn´t agree with the statement of Ann Coulter.)
- Ué! Tava esperando o quê? Que o Corinthians ganhasse!
Huh? You didn´t expect Corinthians would win, would you?
What? Don´t tell me you believe it was Corinthians that deserved to win! (*with that weak performance of theirs...)
(Meaning: it´s obvious that Corinthians wasn´t to win! I agree with the result, the team that won deserve the prize! I can´t agree with you.)
*It´s only for comment´s sake/explanation´s sake, soccer is not my cup of tea. You can replace Corinthians for any soccer team of your (dis)liking here.

We haven't seen Mary Ziller in a zillion years. (She's but disappeared (and no longer comes to the forum)).
Welcome back to the place, Mary. I am glad that natives like you, Dale and others are around, you are an asset and have always good stuff to say!

No, it's more like "wut"maryziller escreveu:Does ué mean hey?
"oh-oh"
"that's weird"
"that's interesting"
"say what?"
"Wait a minute/hold on a minute"
Espero ter ajudado pelo menos um pouquinho!

Good point, Maria.
"Ué?" would go with context, because it could mean-for example "como asssim?" (what´s going on?/is that so?)
"Ué!" nããoo!/não me diga! = Nooo! /can´t believe it?/you can´t be serious! What? Etc.
It´s can be used to show surprise or mild surprise at something just said, and to express that you don´t agree with something said as in "come on!".

It can be used, isntead of "it´s can be used".
