Eu não recomendo "take the rain".
Quando você tem como escapar da chuva mas precisa e decide se melhorar, por exemplo, a trabalho ou por diversão, sugiro:
Get wet in the rain
A opção "get caught in the rain" seria, a meu ver, utilizada (como tomar chuva) quando "você toma chuva porque não tem opção de sair dela; literalmente, "ser pego na chuva".

Among other ways. The last one isn´t about rain in general, but winter brings the two possibilities, that of cold and rain.
Going out in the rain can give you a cold.
Don´t go outside in the rain (or cold), it might make you sick.
You can catch a cold if you go outside without a coat in the winter.

Indeed, " takes the rain" in that case sounds like with the meaning of being touched by the raindrops (on purposse) as one does sometimes. For example, as if he would raise his chin to such angle that the raindrops would fall directly in his face.
