Uso do Superlativo após um Substantivo

I´m not sure about the use of a superlative followed by a noun... Is the use of "the" before the superlative mandatory???
For example:

1)China is the country with most people.
2)China is the country with the most people.

Which one is correct?

Thank you very much in advance!

Who do you think will get (the) most votes?(Quem você acha que vai conseguir mais votos?)

Boa sorte!

China is the country with most people. O most está "superlativando" people?

China is the most populous country (among all the other ones in the world) - ok.
China is the country that has more people (compared to all the other ones in the world) - correta?

thanks in advance

Who do you think will get (the) most votes? ---> (the) most = a maioria dos votos
China is the country with most people. ---> com mais pessoas.

:?:

The class #3 is the class with most students.

Thank you very much everybody!!!

By the way... I have no idea which is the country with (the) most people... that was just a silly example! LOL

(the) most of the people are impatient.

Até logo.

So if we say that China is the country with most people, can I conclude that most people live in China?

If I say "China is the country with more people," am I saying any less than was intended above?

Regards
Quanto a segunda frase, você tocou numa questão delicada.

Sorry that I didn't read your last post, Flávia, because I repeated your argument. In my view, although the original statement would be understood, it's poorly worded.

To me, the use of "the most..." seems more appropriate. The word "people" as a collective is deceptive. I can think of some exmples:

North America is the continent with richest middle class (of any in the world).
Africa is the continent with largest mammalia (of any in the world).
Amazonia is the region with largest flora (...).

Instead of "with," try using "that has":

North America is the continent that has richest middle class (of any in the world).

In every case, it makes sense to use "the" before the superlative.

In another test, we can try inverting the terms, without "the":

Richest middle class (of any...)is found in the North American continent. [Sounds like a newspaper headline!]

My guess is that if it doesn't work with appropriate substitutions, or with straightforward inversions, something is probably missing from the original.

Para simplificar...

Podemos dizer que

China is the country with the most people of any country in the world.

(Yes, most people don't live in China, but it is the country with the most people of any country.)

Ou:

China is the country that has more people than any other country in the world.

(Yes, more people live outside than in China, but China has more people than any other country.)

Ao meu ver, o uso de "the", "most", ou "more" é determinado pela comparação subentendida.

It definitely makes sense!

COME ON. You don't need to apologize. It's a forum, isn't it? Your comments are always welcome (specially when you go along with my ideas :)).

excellent, excellent, excellent and excellent.
This is exactly what I wanted to confirm.

Believe me: I don't know if I'm still insisting on thinking in Portuguese, but, this structure is new for me. My homework: test in another sentences till I get used to the idea. Thanks!

For me, the comparative is clear since I fisrt read the sentence, reason why I insisted that there was something strange...

Claujah: Sorry for disturbing your post.
Anyway I hope the discussion was (and will be) helpful for other readers, as much as it was for me.

Thank you all for the usual kindness,
Flávia
