I think soap operas are very obssessing and manipulating. People get stuck in front of the TV, hooked on that drama, watching something they already know what is going to happen (due to the fact that the soap operas are always very predictable) while life is passing by outside and everybody is enjoying it… And you’re in front of the TV watching something that’s not good for your future and don’t have any good influence on your life, and that’s bad. All of it not to mention that soap operas are full of murders, homosexuality, boy getting merried to boys, girls to girls, cheatings, guns, drug addictions, crimes, fight, lies, boasters, whores, gays, lesbians… And there are children watching this kind of thing… What do you want your child to be when he grow up? Do you want them to act like the soap operas characters? Well, that’s what I think, they’re a waste of time.

I agree with the original conclusion about them: they are contentless, and plus, they are another manner to emptying people’s minds, especially the poorer ones.

I honestly think they’re a loss of time. In Brazil, soap operas are used as much as football championships to keep the whole nation under control, with the false impression that everything’s gonna be OK in the end if your teams wins the cup, be it the regional, the national or the international tournament. I think soap operas are entertainment tools to keep our people anesthetized (just learned this word), and in fact it works pretty well. Most of the soap operas also serve to spread the dominant class’s values, as a way of modelling what we think is right or wrong, what is beautiful and ugly, what should be done and what should be avoided.

In short, it’s a loss of time for those who question themselves about it’s purpose, and it’s a great source of entertainment for those who have not questioned themselves about it yet.

Bem explicado a parte do ‘soap’.

    Hi, Donay!

    Nice article! Congrats!

What I think about soap operas? Well, they are a nice way to kill time or to relax. You may even get to learn something! In general, they are considered to be a complete waste of time. But people must remember that they are fiction! So many people read books, fictional stories, and no one criticizes this! Some people prefer to read books, others prefer to watch soap operas! Long live freedom of choices!

P.S. I seldom watch an episode of a soap opera, but I confess that in the past I was hooked to some of them!

    Legal!

    :)
