"a thing" x "one thing": Qual a diferença

Hi guys. I have a question that no one, even my english teachers, could answer me properly. Is there some difference between the articles "a" and "one".
E.g.: "I'd like to have an ice cream.", and
"I'd like to have one ice cream."
What is the correct phrase and why? Or are both ideas correct?

"One" é adjetivo, o outro artigo, nesse caso seu. "One" sugere a quantia específica. "An" simplesmente aponta para um substantivo vindo em frente: um marco. O contexto determina qual será usado: Eu quero sorvete. / Eu quero dois deles.
Eles não são sempre substituiveis:
It's one thing to say this is white. It's quite another to say it's black.
It's one or the other, but not both.
One of them has to be wrong.
E ora são:
Do you want a (one) dozen or a (one) half-dozen?
There is a (one) thing I like about Saturdays. (não completamente sinônimos, né??)

O artigo “a” enfatiza a indefinição; uma certa pessoa ou coisa, um certo indivíduo ou objeto. “One” enfatiza a quantidade: “um(a)”, dois, três, etc.
- There is a car in the house. [Há um carro na casa.] - Um carro qualquer, um certo carro.
- There is one car, two bicycles and three skates in the house. [Há um carro, duas bicicletas e três skates na casa.]
