Absence x Lack: Como utilizar

Hello guys!

What the diffence between the context of these words: Absense and Lack.
When should I use each one?

Absence:

- The case was dismissed in the absence of any definite proof.

Lack:

- There was no lack of volunteers.

- in/during sb's absence = na/durante a ausência de alguém.
- in the absence of sth = por/na falta de algo.

>> falta, carência.
- for/through lack of sth >> por falta de algo.

[ transitive verb]
>> carecer de, não ter.

He lacks imagination.
>> Ele carece de imaginação.

There was no lack of volunteers.

Everything depends on what you will want to emphasize.

There was no absence of volunteers.
>> So, everybody showed up.

There was no lack of volunteers.
>> There is no need to put somebody else on the team.

A lack implies a judgement. You need to evalute it before say something for sure.
If something is lacking, it is not here in sufficient quantity and, at the same time, it is desired or necessary;

An absence merely reports a state of affairs.
The negation of a presence requires no judgement. It is a fact, in other words, it is already defined. If something or someone is absent, it is not here (definitely).
