Eu sei que para concordar com "I can't drive", basta dizer "Neither can I" ou "I can't either".
Mas li agora uma frase do Truman Capote "You can't blame the writer for what the characters say". Eu quero dizer "Nem o narrador". Será simplesmente "nor the narrator?"

"Neither the writer nor the narrator." would do. Meaning that neither the writer nor the narrator is to take the blame in that case.
Anyway, it would usually apply to something that happens in a "one-way street" event; that is, an action of which both we might think in complementary or even compounding ways.
With that, we think in a "two-way-street" (for lack of a better expression right now). So my suggestion is:
Since one/we can´t blame the writer for what the charater say..., I think the reverse is true.
