"END UP" cabe bem.
You ended up not even eating yesterday's meal.
We ended up becoming friends.
They ended up staying there(*).
I ended up letting it be(go) / letting it slide.
(*) Não vejo um correspondente fiel para esse nosso "mesmo", de confirmação, então, se de repente quiser enfatizar, tipo, "no final das contas", pode iniciar ou terminar usando coisas como "at end of the day", "eventually" , "after all" entre outros.

I think in the case of 'mesmo' word, maybe we could elaborate more to fit the context. Anyway, the sentence "They ended up staying there." would do:
They ended up staying there, they didn´t left the place/didn´t go elsewhere/to another place/...didn´t go anywhere after you left.
They ended up staying there, they didn´t left the place/didn´t go elsewhere/to another place/...didn´t go anywhere after you left.
