Acolher também pode ser utilizado no sentido de dar abrigo, proteção, um lugar para ficar. Nesse sentido, existe o verbo take in.
  • The homeless shelter takes in women and children. [O abrigo acolhe mulheres e crianças.]
  • He was homeless, so we took him in. [Ele estava sem lugar para morar, então nós o acolhemos.]
  • When I needed a place to live, my uncle took me in. [Quando eu precisei de um lugar para morar, meu tio me acolheu.]
