Podemos usar esta expressão pra indicar o apaixonamento de alguém:

He’s been falling for this lady for a week now. I hope they don’t start dating.

“Engraçar-se com alguém”, no sentido de flertar, pode ser dito das seguintes formas, mas são old-fashioned:

He’s been courting/wooing this lady for a week now. I hope they don’t start dating.

Se bem que a expressão em português também é arcaica ou regional.

No The Free Dictionary temos com a mesma conotação e maior intensidade o verbo hit on: 3. US and Canadian to make sexual advances to (a person).

Hi, Jorge. I wish you a nice weekend.

In fact, the Free Dictionary gives a good definition. Just adding some more detail to it, it´s worthy mentioning that per Cambridge Dictionary (and others) on the entry "hit":

hit on sb phrasal verb US slang
to show someone that you are sexually attracted to them
Some guy hit on me while I was standing at the bar.

hit on/upon sth phrasal verb
to think of an idea when you didn't expect or intend to, especially one that solves a problem
When we first hit on the idea, everyone told us it would never work.

Thus, "hit on somebody (sb)" and "hit on something (sth)" are different expressions with "hit on", it´s worthy noticing.
