Nesse caso até poderia ser intercambiável.
Look is about dressing and accessories at a given moment, hence the look is what enhances the appearance at some time.
Appearance may have a more permanent ring to it.
Appearance could also be the way someone's attitude or the way he/she makes an impression to others: he had a drunkard appearance.
Look is also more colloquial in kind.

No que diz respeito ao significado 'aparência', 'looks' é mais informal. Mas ambas podem ser usadas em linguagem coloquial.
