The left-back/left outside back (lateral esquerdo)/right-back (lateral direito) tries a long shoot from distance, but the ball passes wide of the post.

(generally they don´t specificy which side, perhaps the game emotion..., but if you want then you can say ...the ball passes wide of the left post)


If the ball "passa alto por cima, longe da trave" you can say it passed wide from the crossbar, or wide from the head of the goalie. :lol:
