To add from my own experience at a large American Corporation:

By FAR the most common formal/serious-tone farewell is just "Sincerely", and for neutral e-mails it's just "Regards". Perhaps if the meeting went really well, "Best regards".

Searching back through 5 years of business e-mails (≈26000), I have only gotten "yours truly"/"Sincerely yours" from automated responses/spam, "Yours faithfully" only from a quotation by a British company, "Faithfully yours" never, "Yours sincerely" only a dozen times. Anything with "Yours" in it sounds old-fashioned to me, and I personally probably wouldn't ever use it.

"Sincerely" numbers around 600, and "Regards, "/"Best regards" about 4,500 each, "Kind regards" about 700. Lots of folks use "Best regards" or "Thank you" in their automated signature.

I feel like Atenciosamente falls somewhere in between (or straddles all the way across) "Regards" and "Sincerely" in formality, because I have seen it used both in situations where I'd use "Regards", and in situations where I'd use "Sincerely".

For the curious, 20 months in Brazil and I see about 1,000 e-mails with "Atenciosamente", 600 with "Att", and 30 with "Atte".

Thank you very much, Bryan. I also found these definitions below.
USA: I was taught, and I believe it is still valid, that you use "Yours truly" for business correspondence and "Sincerely yours" for social correspondence – even though it might seem the opposite would be true.
USA: "Sincerely" or "yours sincerely" (the first is probably better) are the standard forms for business communication. "Best regards" might be considered too informal.
USA: I used "Sincerely," in all business correspondence regardless of to whom the letter is addressed. I rarely use "Yours ... " at all, except in very specific circumstances. It seems to me that "faithfully" takes on a much more personal register than does "sincerely," which is pretty ubiquitous.
UK: In school, I was taught "yours faithfully" for informal letters and "yours sincerely" for formal letters. This is of course nonsense, I don't know anyone who would sign a letter to a friend or family member with "yours faithfully". I usually write "see you soon" or "take care" (or both).
Canada: There really is no difference in the sentiment but both phrases are considered rather old-fashioned and quaint these days although "Yours sincerely" is still, occasionally, used. "Yours faithfully" is very, very old-fashioned. Most business correspondence (in Canada, at least) is signed "Yours truly".
USA: Personally, I have never used "yours faithfully" in a letter ever. I would say "Yours truly" is typically used in a personal letter, and not in this situation. In this situation, I would just use "sincerely", it is more professional.
Thank you for posting.

I never saw "yours faithfully" but it would be understood and it would be very formal. I don't think you would use it for business at all, maybe something to a lover or a good friend or something religious.

It is much more common to say, Sincerely yours. than yours sincerely. Sincerely yours is what we usually put.

Yes, absolutely.

Yes, that must be true. There are many differences between British and American English and I am not really familiar with British English to that degree. I know some of the different names for things such as chemists for pharmacy, flat for apartment, lu for bathroom, queue for line,
things like that. But , of course, I understand them completely when they speak, unless they have a cockney accent! :)

Obrigada,

Yes, "Atte" might be getting out of use, might be from old school people. But words are opinionated things, they don´t leave the scene easily, without a fight! :-)

Maybe "Yours faithfully " is more common in British English, because when was studying at Cultura Inglesa, the way to end a formal letter when you start with "Dear Sir or Madam" ( I mean any formal letter) was exactly the expression "Yours Faithfully ".

Again, in British English, we use Yours Sincerely. Sincerely Yours is the American way to end a formal or Semi-formal letter when you have addressed sb by their name.
