Jesus... Que confuso. Kkkkkk

"Truck" is said to mention them in general. A semi-trailer is a trailer without a front axle. In the United States, the term is also used to refer to the combination of a truck and a semi-trailer, a tractor-trailer. (Wikipedia).

That is "...without a front axle" (sem o eixo na frente, um caminhão em o eixo não vai da parte debaixo da cabina até lá nas últimas rodas, por baixo da carroceria).
A semi (short for semi-trailer) or 'rig' is often mentioned as the combination of the tractor (where is the cabin) and the trailer.
But sometimes they mention trailer meaning the combination as well (prefferablly when you see the combination not just the tractor).

Then comes the subgroups, a semi/rig could be a "flatbed" truck - carreta com carroceria aberta, a refrigerated trailer, etc.

More on the topic, but then you can just skim it and see the pics and captions if you wish.
