Guitars, cavaquinhos (a small/mini-guitar), contrabasses/guitar basses have frets (area between vertical marked lines, sort of) in their necks where you press down to get/to play the notes ( (A, B, C, D, E, F and G - or Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Si if you wish.) while plucking into a given string with the index finger, here (in the first lesson) the 1st string.
1st string - bottom E string.

Notice: it supposes to be "tablature" lessons in this lesson.
In fact the order of the notes is: C, D, E, F,G, A, and B to Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Si.

To play a C major chord do as the following: press the index finger (of your left hand) on the third string in the first fret...and so on...

Again, explanation as per tablature mode.

Hope some musician improve the anwer, let´s wait them.
Fret: The piece of metal (strip) that runs across the entire surface of your guitar's neck. (A parte de metal que atravessa toda a superfície do pescoço de sua guitarra/violão.) (Não sei se em português se diz pescoço ou braço.)

or

The space on the neck between one piece of metal and the next. (O espaço no pescoço entre uma parte de metal e a outra.)

"Take your second finger, and put it on the third fret of the sixth string." (Coloque o seu dedo médio na terceira casa da sexta corda.)

Essas informações estavam em um site que dá aulas de violão.

I'm a musician and I would have simply answered the question with "fret" and an example .

Ha ha ha, you are the tersest musician I know.
As for me, talk about a chatterbox! but then, just online. When in person, I am very shy.

Or I am shy with languages that I am not good at!
As when my wife decided host those Venezuelan people, two women of the JMJ to stay overnight here.
I mix Portuguese, bad/passable Spanish and Portunhol. Oh my! that´s why I am economical with words then! ha ha. ja ja.

One of them seeing my wife´s photoes of old and seeing our children at that time little ones. So she said "mira!" and I thinking "who is that Mira?" I tought Mira was a woman! Miraa! meant Olhaa! (Look! the way women say Brazilian women say affectionately when seeing little babies or little pets)
Pessoa voltando o assunto casa musical da guitarra e violão poderiam ser fingerboard e fretboard ?

Technically fingerboard, from what I read in Wikipedia. Fretboard would be the "marks" (the violin there is not fretted). Anyway, it seems that in everyday conversation the words could be interchangeable. One would understand just the same.
