Como dizer "cassação de mandato" em inglês

Como dizer "cassação de mandato" em inglês
Hello, there!

Thanks in advance.
See ya!

Hey Jojobba! That's a tough one!

Entretanto, podemos usar revoke. Confira a definição:
  • Revoke: To invalidate or cause to no longer be in effect, as by voiding or canceling.
"Mandato" pode ter vários significados em inglês, mas legitimacy é o que melhor se adapta, de acordo com a incidência de usos na internet:
  • Legitimacy: Being in compliance with the law; lawfu.
Para seus exemplos, podemos ter:
  • The city's mayor had his legitimacy revoked.
  • The Prosecutor is in favor of the mayor's legitimacy revocation.

"Brazil’s Rousseff Says Efforts to Revoke Legitimacy Won’t Stand"

Agora confira um trecho da matéria:
"Dilma Rousseff said attempts to undermine her legitimacy as Brazil’s president won’t stand following reports that a growing number of lawmakers support impeachment."

Espero ter ajudado!
See you =)

Dicas:

  • ''Starting in the early 1990s, presidents were removed from office in Brazil, Venezuela, Guatemala, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Argentina, and Bolivia.'' [Cambridge - UK]
  • The accusations must be investigated in Congress, and then impeachment must be approved by two-thirds of the lower house and, after a trial, by the Senate, before Rousseff can be removed from office. [Los Angeles Times - USA - 2015]
Cassação de mandato: removal from office
  • ''During the months in which Brazil's political class negotiated Collor's removal from office, Franco also tried to win the acquiescence of some Collor supporters.'' [Kurt Gerhard Weyland - Books Google]
  • ''There were similar but smaller protests in other major cities including Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and Belo Horizonte - where the defeated opposition candidate in last year's presidential election, Aecio Neves, took part in calls for Ms Rousseff's removal from office.'' [BBC - UK]
Dicas adicionais:

Removal (cassação): the act of forcing someone to leave an important position or job. [Cambridge Dictionary]
Remove (cassar): to take away someone’s power or position, especially in politics. [Macmillan Dictionary]

There have been calls for the president's removal.
Another joint sitting is then convened and if the motion for the removal of the president is supported by not less than two thirds of the combined membership he is removed from office.

Office: a position in a large and powerful organization, especially a government. [Macmillan Dictionary]

My suggestion: (ser cassado)

To be stripped of one's mandate.

Bye!

I'll have to go with "to be removed from office"

Example:
The council voted in favor to remove the mayor from office
O'Dwyer removed from mayor's seat
Source: The Killeen Daily Herald

Usually in the US corrupt politicians will resign before being removed from office. (In exchange for some minor job in some remote location)

There was a mayor in New York named William O'Dwyer who was involved in a scandal. In exchange for resigning, he got a nice job as ambassador to Mexico. This saved the city the trouble of prosecuting him for corruption in order to REMOVE HIM FROM OFFICE.

The current mayor of New York, Mayor Bill DeBlasio, is at risk of being REMOVED FROM OFFICE because he accepted campaign contributions in exchange for "favors." We will see if he is offered a job in Mexico.

I made a mistake above in voting up the wrong response. I think the most common phrase is:

To be removed from office.

eg: The mayor was "removed from office" for taking bribes.
