Só como adendo: aqui no Brasil quando ocorre um crime e sendo um homicídio geralmente quem chega primeiro é a Policia Militar que pode ser chamada pelo 190 e que pela Constituição é considerada a Polícia preventiva e ostensiva, a qual fica encarregada de guardar a área (secure the area or perimeter) garantindo a permanência dos vestígios e que o local não seja maculado por curiosos, até que cheguem ao local o I.M.L. (medical examiner) e os peritos criminais (forensic team), devendo também chegar ao local o Delegado e sua equipe, estes representando a Polícia judiciária e que no final juntarão ao Inquérito (inquest ou inquiry) os relatórios do I.M.L e dos peritos criminais (reports), o que junto com as declarações (statements and depositions) seguirão à Justiça para apreciação.

Acredito que tanto "scene of the crime" quanto "crime scene" são utilizados. De qualquer forma, o meu antigo box de CSI estampa "crime scene".
Era exatamente o que eu ia apontar: CSI = CRIME SCENE Investigation. O "Vegas" estreou agora, não perca! E incontáveis vezes os policiais do L&O falam do "CSU", ou "CRIME SCENE Unit".
