"Can I use it when I'm talking about something and I want to diminuir/reduzir/cortar the sentence pela metade?"

Poderia usar "shorten"?

Confuso...

Thanks

Sophia,

Cortar pela metade: cut something in half
Reduzir: shorten

Ex.: It would have been natural to cut the text in half and read verses 24–25. (Books Google)

Ex.: A proposal to shorten the long summer holidays.

I’m trying to cut down on the amount of sugar I eat.
E nessa frase:

Who even hates to go to school because it cuts down on her reading time.
