Como dizer "dar chance ao azar" em inglês

Não dê chance para o azar - eles concordaram em pagar as suas despesas de viagem, eu não acho que seria prudente pedir mais dinheiro.

Eu entenderia por "don't push your luck", algo como: "não abuse da sorte", mas não deixa de ser "não dê chance para o azar". É interessante como uma expressão pode ser entendida de diferentes formas ...

As for the sentence "Vou evitar fazer isso para não dar chance ao azar."

I would put it this way: "I am not going to do that, I better not leave that to chance./I am not one to leave it to chance/I never leave anything to chance/I don't ever leave anything to chance."

Ah, and "...it's better not leave anything to chance, and so on...

"Push your luck" e "leaving it to chance" são belas expressões!

Acho interessante que temos em português 'a sorte' e 'o azar', ou 'a boa/má sorte', (mas não 'o bom azar'), enquanto que em inglês temos 'the good luck' e 'the bad luck'. O azar é sempre ruim, e tem um outro termo vizinho em inglês, 'hazard'. Temos outros termos também, como 'good fortune' e 'misfortune' (alguns dizem 'bad fortune', que parece contraditório).

Pensando assim, no caso de "Vou evitar fazer isso para não dar chance ao azar." ofereço mais uma interpretação:

I'm not going to do that and (run the) risk (of) misfortune.

Mas não tão expressivo quanto "push my luck".

Another one: better safe than sorry! (context-wise, of course.)

Wash that cutting board, I don't know if that cutting board was washed, chances are that it wasn't and it could cross-contaminate other meat (uncooked I mean). Better safe than sorry!

Dependendo do contexto outras expressões podem ser usadas:

Nothing can be left to chance.
Nada pode ser deixado ao acaso. (correr risco desnecessário)

You must use sunblock. Don't take chances!
Você deve usar protetor solar. Não se arrisque!
