Então, "o Eixo Rio-São Paulo'' equivale a "the Rio-São Paulo area''.

''o eixo Rio-São Paulo - the Rio-São Paulo area.''

"Corridor" is another option.

It's a strong metaphor (in English) if you're going to talk about other regions 'revolving' around it, being 'driven' by it. And it's an expression (in English) generally reserved for well-known connections (the Axis Powers, the "axis of evil" invented by Bush, etc.), so we wouldn't normally speak of some lesser known interconnection as an 'axial' region.

So, in terms of proportion, I agree that the terms suggested (area, region, circuit, corridor, etc.) seem more appropriate.

My suggestion:

Rio-São Paulo axis.
