USA: Roman Catholics, at least of the older generations in the USA, tend to use "ghost" more than "spirit." The "Sign of the Cross" I was taught goes "In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost." I don't believe this holds true for the protestant denominations, but for this I have no personal evidence. By the way, the Douay Rheims (Roman Catholic) bible uses "Ghost" far more often than "Spirit" throughout to refer to the 3rd person of the trinity.

USA: To me (raised in a Pentecosal church), "Father, Son and Holy Ghost" is a set phrase, but if I were talking about the latter on its own I would say "Holy Spirit."

USA: Roman Catholics in the US who are younger than 50 will tend to say "Holy Spirit" instead of "Holy Ghost", as that is what they were taught. In addition, since 1973 the English translations of the Roman Missal have used only "Holy Spirit" (including when making the sign of the cross), while the scriptural translations used in church are a revision of the (Catholic) New American Bible, which never once uses the term "Holy Ghost", but only "Holy Spirit". Thus, most US English-speaking Roman Catholics who regularly attend mass will hear and use "Holy Spirit" in public worship far more often than they will hear and use "Holy Ghost", which would only occur in, for example, the words of certain older hymns. For my part, since I am older than 50, I tend to think and say "Holy Ghost" when naming the Third Person of the Trinity in circumstances outside of Mass -- but I know I am in a shrinking minority. Meanwhile, since the 1609 "Authorized" or "King James" translation of the Bible uses the term "Holy Ghost", among those Protestants who believe that the King James Version is the only valid translation of the Bible you will find a preference for "Holy Ghost".

Hey =)

I am a Catholic American. We say Holy Spirit. Before Vatican II American Catholics used to say "Holy Ghost"

When we cross ourselves we say "In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit."

The spirits of my ancestors.
Some religions believe that the same spirit is reincarnated many times in different bodies.

Bons estudos.
So, I belive it is not wrong to prayer saying "Dear Holy Ghost, bless my Family" in my prayer, isn't it?
