Can we use "belong to" as well?
Trc,

Sim, sits on é usado.
He sits on the board of directors - Ele é membro da diretoria / Ele senta-se na diretoria

I'm a part of it .
I'm part of it.
I'm a part of it .
I'm part of it.
Most of the time they could be interchangeable, to my thinking.
Sometimes, though, "I am part of it" would be I am a component, a member of the group etc, whereas "I a part of it" would have that ring of having the feeling of leaving a legacy, or living something big, great, something that is changing something in the world, in the sciences, etc... In the middle of something that "is making history".
